Scranton Aces T-Shirt (Heavyweight)
The Scranton Aces, based in Scranton, Pennsylvania, played a single season in the Continental Basketball Association, 1980-81. They were the former Wilkes-Barre Barons, renamed by owner Art Pachter in November 1980 to try to revive thin crowds.
Pete Monska, who had won a title with the Barons in 1978, coached the Aces at the Scranton Catholic Youth Center, and the team went 13-27, last in its division. Guard Rory Sparrow later played twelve seasons in the big leagues. Pachter cited weak local support and rising travel costs when he left the league after the season, and the team folded. The franchise's roots ran through the Eastern league of Pennsylvania, renamed the CBA in 1978.
