Memphis Storm

The Memphis Storm, based in Memphis, Tennessee, joined the American Indoor Soccer Association as an expansion team in May 1986. They played at the Mid-South Coliseum.

Terry Nicholl coached most of the first three seasons. The 1986-87 team went 24-18, finished second in the Southern Division and lost in the semifinals to Louisville. In 1987-88 the Storm went 16-8 and finished first. No postseason was held, so they were declared champions, and Nicholl was Coach of the Year. Manny Sanchez was Goalkeeper of the Year, and Rod Castro was Rookie of the Year. The 1988-89 team went 14-26.

In September 1989 new owners renamed the club. That team went 6-34. The league expelled it in June 1990 over unpaid arena rent, about $21,000 by one account. The franchise name changed several more times in a lower-level league before it stopped in 1994.
