Allentown Jets

The Allentown Jets, based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, were a minor pro basketball team that played from 1958 to 1981. The franchise started in 1957 as the Wilmington Jets in Delaware and moved to Allentown a year later. It played in the Eastern Professional Basketball League until 1970, then in the Eastern Basketball Association (EBA), and finally in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). In 1979 it was renamed the Lehigh Valley Jets.

Home games were played at Rockne Hall, on the Allentown Central Catholic High School campus. The Jets won eight playoff titles: 1962, 1963, 1965, 1968, 1970, 1972, 1975 and 1976. Their overall record was 416-266. Roman Turmon, Harthorne Wingo and Brendan McCann were among the regulars. Ray Scott, a 1961 draft pick of a big-league team, later played and coached in the big leagues.

The Jets also had a working agreement with a New York big-league club, which sent players to Allentown for work.

The CBA grew into a coast-to-coast circuit around 1980, and the Jets folded after the 1980-81 season.
