Wilmington Blue Bombers
The Wilmington Blue Bombers, based in Wilmington, Delaware, played in two eras. The first club was in the American Basketball League from 1941 to 1947. Barney Sedran coached it to titles in 1941-42 and 1943-44, with players such as Ed Sadowski and Moe Frankel on the rosters.
The name returned in 1963 in the Eastern Professional Basketball League, a minor league that later became the Eastern Basketball Association. The first game was on November 24, 1963, against the Sunbury Mercuries, and the team went 7-21 that year. It then became a contender. The city later honored the club for league titles in 1966 and 1967. Waite Bellamy was the only player to appear in all eight seasons.
The team played at Salesianum High School through 1970. It was renamed the Delaware Blue Bombers for 1970-71, moved to St. Mark's High School, and finished last at 11-17 amid budget cuts. Its last game was on April 4, 1971.
