Hartford Hellcats
The Hartford Hellcats, based in Hartford, Connecticut, played in the Continental Basketball Association, the 1978 to 2009 league. The franchise had been the Albany Patroons, then the Capital Region Pontiacs in 1992, before it moved to Connecticut and took the Hellcats name for 1993-94. It played at the State Arsenal and Armory, and at times at the Hartford Civic Center.
The Hellcats went 18-38 in their first season, third in the American Eastern division, and missed the playoffs. They were 11-23 in the next season, which makes 29 wins in about a season and a half under that name.
The franchise did not fold at that point. It was renamed the Connecticut Pride, though sources disagree on whether that happened in 1995 or later. It stayed in Hartford and won a league title in 1999, then moved to New Haven for 2000-01, the year the league collapsed.
