San Jose Jammers

The San Jose Jammers, based in San Jose, California, were a Continental Basketball Association (CBA) team formed in 1989 as part of a push to bring the league to California. Former state assemblyman Dominic Cortese owned the club, and a former Oakland baseball executive, Fred Kuenzi, helped create it.

The Jammers went 23-33 in 1989-90, third in their division, and made the playoffs before losing in the conference semifinals. In 1990-91 they went 21-35 and missed the postseason. Guards Freddie Banks and Butch Hays were on the first roster, and Pearl Washington and Kelvin Upshaw also played for the franchise.

Cortese moved the team to Bakersfield for 1991-92, where it was called the Bakersfield Jammers. It folded early in that season, reportedly around 23 games in, amid money problems.
