New Haven Skyhawks
The New Haven Skyhawks, based in New Haven, Connecticut, played in the United States Basketball League (USBL), a spring league. The franchise began in 1985 as the Connecticut Colonels and took the New Haven name in 1988. It was renamed the Connecticut Skyhawks in 1993.
The Skyhawks won the league title in their first season under the new name. They went 18-12 in 1988, then beat the Palm Beach Stingrays 134-126 in the final. Bobby Parks was the postseason MVP. The league then suspended play and returned in 1990.
The club played in several small gyms, including Charger Gymnasium in 1991-92. Its best regular season came in 1999 at 20-9. That year it reached the final again and lost 83-77 to the defending champion Atlantic City Seagulls. Sources give the end of the franchise as after 1999, though one lists 2001.
