Dayton Rockettes

The Dayton Rockettes, based in Dayton, Ohio, were a founding team of the Women's Professional Basketball League (WBL) and played one season, 1978-79, at Hara Arena. They debuted on December 15, 1978, with a 90-82 loss to the Houston Angels, who went on to win the league title.

Coach Linda Mann was let go after the team lost its first two games. Tom Griffey, 23, replaced her and coached the remaining 32 games. The Rockettes finished 12-22, third in the Eastern Division, and missed the playoffs. Vonnie Tomich made the WBL All-Pro team.

The owner, Louis Deitelbaum, stopped paying the team's bills, and the league took over the franchise in February 1979. The last home game was moved to Indianapolis to show the team to possible buyers. None appeared, and the team folded after the season.
