Chicago Majors

The Chicago Majors, based in Chicago, Illinois, played in the American Basketball League (ABL), the short-lived 1960s rival to the top pro league. Abe Saperstein, the founder of the Harlem Globetrotters, owned the team. Home games were played at the International Amphitheatre.

In 1961-62, the league's only full season, the Majors went 39-44 under coach Andy Phillip. They finished seven games back in the Eastern Division. They got a first-round bye in the playoffs, then lost the quarterfinal to New York, 115-108.

The 1962-63 season went worse. Chicago was 8-20 and last in the standings when the ABL folded on December 31, 1962. The Majors folded with it.
