Charleston Gunners
The Charleston Gunners, based in Charleston, West Virginia, played three seasons in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), from 1986 to 1989. The franchise had been the Sarasota Stingers and then the Florida Stingers before moving to West Virginia. Jack Catalano owned the team, which wore blue and gold and played at the 12,266-seat Charleston Civic Center.
The Gunners opened with a 98-95 win at Cincinnati on December 4, 1986. They never had a winning season. In 1987-88 they set a CBA record with 17 straight losses, and in 1988-89 they drew the smallest crowds of the league's 12 teams.
Their last game was a 124-120 win at Topeka on March 12, 1989. The franchise was sold and moved to Columbus, Ohio, where it became the Columbus Horizon.
