California Dreams
The California Dreams, based in Long Beach, California, were a team in the Women's Professional Basketball League (WBL), the first women's pro basketball league in the United States. They played one season, 1979-80, in the Western Division. Home games were split between Long Beach Arena and the Anaheim Convention Center.
Mel Sims coached the team, and the owners were Larry Kozlicki, Terrell Iselhard and Gerald Schenk. The Dreams went 11-18. They struggled to draw fans at Long Beach Arena and to pay their bills.
The team folded shortly before the end of its only season, in early 1980. One account dates it to March 2. Kozlicki later invested in another WBL club, the Nebraska Wranglers.
