Hartford Capitols

The Hartford Capitols, based in Hartford, Connecticut, played eight seasons in the Eastern Professional Basketball League, which was renamed the Eastern Basketball Association in 1970. Local attorney Mark Yellin owned the team. The Capitols played weekend games at borrowed sites around the Hartford area, including the University of Hartford, Hartford Public High School and Bloomfield High School.

The team's overall record was 136-94. It made the playoffs in each of its eight seasons, but for most of that time it lost in the semifinals or division finals. The best regular season was 1972-73, at 25-7, which ended with a loss in the championship series. The Capitols won the title the next year, going 19-8 in 1973-74.

Gene Conley, Art Heyman and K.C. Jones all played for the team, and all had big-league careers. The Capitols folded in 1974, soon after the championship. The reason is not recorded in the sources found.
