Las Vegas Silvers

The Las Vegas Silvers, based in Las Vegas, Nevada, were a Continental Basketball Association expansion team for 1982-83. Patrick Shimbashi got the franchise rights in May 1982, after the Alberta Dusters folded, and first hoped to keep the team in Lethbridge, Alberta. Co-owner Ken Ford and Shimbashi could not agree on how to fund it. Home games were played at the Las Vegas Convention Center and a Tropicana hotel venue.

The money ran out fast. The league seized the franchise in early February 1983, about 32 games into the schedule, citing management problems and unpaid bills. The team moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to finish the year as the Albuquerque Silvers and ended 17-27, fourth in the West Division.

The team stayed in Albuquerque for two more seasons, finishing last in the West both times, at 11-33 in 1983-84 and 18-30 in 1984-85. In July 1985 owner Pat McKernan sold the franchise back to the league, and it folded.
