Shreveport Storm
The Shreveport Storm, based in Shreveport, Louisiana, were the last stop for a Continental Basketball Association franchise that began in 1983. It started as the Sarasota Stingers, became the Florida Stingers, then the Charleston Gunners in West Virginia, then the Columbus Horizon in Georgia. Owner Eli Jacobson moved it to Shreveport's Hirsch Memorial Coliseum for 1994-95.
That first Shreveport team was the Crawdads. It went 17-39 and finished last. A baseball club in North Carolina held the trademark on the name, so Jacobson announced the Storm name in April 1995 for the following season.
The Storm played 1995-96 and the franchise never made the CBA playoffs under its Shreveport names. A planned sale to an out-of-town group fell through, and the league terminated the membership in September 1996.
